    Default Life Application Bible

Has anyone used this Bible before? How is it in regard to being theologically sound and stuff?
    Matthew 11:28

    It's one Bible I haven't met.

It appears you have a choice of translations, NLT or NIV. I would go with the NIV. That is more accurate than the NLT, which is a paraphrase.

I do have to admit, I know a guy, very zealous for God, adores his NLT and won't hear a word against it. I don't.

I'd suggest going to www.biblegateway.com and looking up your favorite verses under NLT and NIV.

" I have had an increasing burden to engage in some down and dirty, street evangelism." March 6, 2010

Isaiah 6:8 I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: “ Whom shall I send, And who will go for Us?”

Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.”

    Matthew 22:9 NIV
'So go to the street corners and invite to the banquet anyone you find.’

I wanted to have a copy of the NASB and the hardback edition of it came in this Life Application format at a reasonable price - $25. I honestly do not use it all the time but I have found the applications are good - much like a good devotional. They would also make a good point for discussion groups as well.

For hard core study I recommend the Scofield Reference Bible in whatever version you will read. The notes, cross references are easy to read and use. Having a concordance that travels with you is priceless.

My views are a little different than some here, but I would skip this bible. NIV and NLT are not very strong translations in my opinion.

They have a NASB one too! I haven't read it (I've read NASB, but not Life Application), but just thought I should mention that they are available in more accurate translations. I personally like plain bibles without devotions/commentary in them, but that's jut my personal preferance.

I have a NIV Life Application Bible and it has been very helpful to me.

I don't go to church and wanted to be able to study the Word so It gives me some guidance when going through passages I don't quite understand. I did alot of research before buying and went to the Christian Bookstore to take a look at the different types and it seemed to be a good fit for me. (Relatively new to Bible Study) I have the one by Tyndale and Zondervan. I really like the maps and timelines they do in the book because it helps me to visualize and put all the pieces together. Additionally, they do profiles on the main characters of the Bible and give you their history as well as alot of good cross-referencing and very good commentary.

If you have a store you can go to check them out and see what might be best for what you need right now.

I have seen the LAB in various translations. The first one I found was NKJV and I bought one. At the time I didn't realize it was available in other translations. Regardless, the timelines and biographies are helpful and contribute to a better understanding of the Word. As far as a preferred translation, I like the KJV2000. Not always easy to find in print but it's in the Bible software I usually use.

I have the NIV Life Application Bible and I love it. Very detailed notes. When I can't quit wrap my brain around what my Amplified Bible is saying, I go to my NIV. Very helpful

I have the NLT version of the Life Application Study Bible. I will readily admit that the NLT translation is a little bit too much paraphrased for me. However, the true value of the Life Application Study Bible is the application notes, commentary, personality profiles, Book intros w/themes, audience, dates, etc. It is a virtual treasure of information that you would have to purchase three other study materials to get all of the info it covers.

If you don't like the translation, it is available in others (NKJV, NIV, NLT, and others). Again, the true value lies in the Application/Commentary portion of it. That part has been priceless to me.
