The tough part about doing paintings in hell is getting people to pose. Nonetheless, various guesses have been made and I imagine you are referring to the images created by Hieronymus Bosch, Albrecht Durer, and even Michaelangelo's "Last Judgment" on the Sistine Chapel ceiling. These all reflect various legends and mythology, like Charon (Greek mythical boatman who rows the damned across the river Styx into Hades), who appears on the Sistine chapel ceiling, mightily rowing away. Michaelangleo painted Biblical figures but also included a Papal official who said his painting would go better in a roadhouse - Michaelangelo painted him (naked), wrapped in snakes, and on his way to The Other Place. I suppose this was his day's version of editorial cartooning.

Bosch and Durer painted mythical horned and winged creatures of various sort performing all manner of pitchfork-poking, leering, grabbing, mocking, and demonstrating in various ways that there were no civil rights in Hell. Frankly, I find Linda Blair's makeup in The Exorcist scarier - Hieronymus could have learned a thing or two from Hollywood. Of course, those from Hollywood who land in The Other Place will encounter things they never thought of as well.

Our minds can't comprehend the beauty of Heaven the same way we can't comprehend the horror of Hell. Hell is called a lake of fire. Think about what it's like to jump into a lake or pool. You feel the water all around you, cooling you off and refreshing you. Now imagine that same experience of jumping into a lake but this time it's all fire and it burns. Think about the pain and the smell of burnt flesh, it never ends. And that description doesn't come close to doing the torment justice. Remember Hell was not designed for people. It's there to punish the fallen angles. I'm amazed that people still think that Satan has a throne in Hell and is ruling it like it's his kingdom. Nothing could be further from the truth.

In writing that and thinking about that I am so thankful for His grace and His Son that saved me from that torture.

Amen Todd, Amen. Thank the Lord that He provided such a wonderful way of escape & salvation!

Well you are either clothed in the Lord's Righteousness, or you're not.....I certainly imagine the souls of the damned being naked. Besides...wouldn't the lake of fire burn whatever clothing you had to begin with?

Reminds me of the Farside cartoon with men in suits with briefcases all going down a conveyor belt.

Right now, the people in hell are souls and spirits and not physical. I don't know if it's possible to clothe a spirit? Jesus, after His resurrection, ate in front of the apostles to prove He wasn't a spirit, but the rich man who ignored Lazarus was thirsty in hell. I think about all this stuff and my head is spinning. Thinking about it, they, the people i hell, rejected God and/or Jesus depending on the time they lived in. While they still exist, would God provide anything for them anymore? If they're eternally separated from Him, is He still providing them clothing? I don't think so.

This much I will say, after the White Throne Judgment, when people are cast physically into the lake of fire, I do not think they will be clothed. I think they will be in eternal fire, unclothed, as a reminder that they came into the world naked, and anything and everything they had in the world was a blessing provided by the God Who loved them so very much, the One they rejected.

Adam and Eve were naked in the Garden of Eden until they ate from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Once they did so, they immediately realized they were naked and tried to cover themselves up. Was it that they were naked that was evil or was it the knowledge of lust and shame that caused them to cover up? If it wasn't evil for them to be naked before they sinned, then it must have been the knowledge of lust and shame that caused them to cover up, or something along that line of reasoning. At that time, the first animal sacrifice was committed, and it was done to provide a covering against their sin. It was a true foreshadowing of the Savior to come. Metaphorically speaking, by denying the reality and the sacrifice of Jesus, was chooses to walk through the world naked, clothed in nothing but their sins. I just don't see anyone in hell now, or in the lake of fire later, having the comfort of being clothed. They are totally exposed, and not just in the physical sense.

My beloved spake, and said unto me, Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away.
For, lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone; the flowers appear on the earth; the time of the singing of birds is come, and the voice of the turtle is heard in our land; the fig tree putteth forth her green figs, and the vines with the tender grape give a good smell. Arise, my love, my fair one, and come away.

    Baruch haba b'Shem Adonai!

I've always imagined the lake of fire to be a crowded place where souls and fallen angels could hear each other's moanings, but at the same time each would be utterly isolated and alone in their own little hell, so to speak... completely separated from the presence of God.

Yes,I have heard people say " When we get to hell we will have one hell of a party". Well, I am thinking that hell is extremely dark and a person is the most alone and isolated that they have ever been. With a torture that would make us probably die of shock if we saw it now.

the supreme act of love is to take people out from the danger of hell as soon as possible no matter how bitter the intention and the results will be. it is no different than for a parent to avoid taking the child to a gang infested place. hell is such a sadistic place rightful for Satan but people chose to go there.

    Two certainties about Hell:

    1. It's long.
    2. It's hot.

On Earth if we are suffering from some injury or illness we can usually say that we have hope and it will not be forever and that it will eventually end.Not with hell. The torture will be for an eternity.Ever ending.
I think as humans we are curious about hell.

I can honestly say that I have never wondered about whether or not people in hell are naked or not. I would just as soon not find out.
    Jesus, please come back TODAY!!!!
