    Default Taking off wallpaper trim

I have just moved into a home and the bedroom I am in has this little boy baseball mitt and baseball wallpaper trim on the bottom of the wall.It is about 81/2 wide.I need to take the old wallpaper trim off.Anyone have any suggestion on how to do that?

The Home Improvement store has a spray. Spray that on, let it sit for a while, then pull off the trim.

I have this horrible burgundy & green trim. I tried to pull it off and it left adhesive, someone told me about the spray. Make sure you are well ventilated; it can cause headaches.

I wonder if I can put the new trim over the old trim?

It's best to remove the old paper, but it's not hard to do. There is store stuff, but I just used warm water and a little white vinegar. Squeeze out a sponge in the solution, and pat it on in small sections, you can see the difference in the paper when it is soaked. Peel it off, or use a plastic scraper which doesn't damage the walls to remove the top layer of paper. Re-wet and scrape or sponge off all the adhesive and remaining under-layer of paper, or you might have a problem with a new paint job.
I did a big job removing 2 1/2 rooms of wallpaper not long ago, and it was all good...
Have fun...it's great for the arms

I wallpapered a whole wall over the old wallpaper. It's my accent wall and it turned out perfect.

I might try that. The new border will be darker than the existing border.I am looking for something with a dark green to accent the carpet and the curtain valances.

If it doesn't work I would be shocked. Go for it!

I think Sherwin Williams site has quite a few online resources that help you choose a paint pallet.

The Miller paint company recommended something called "Tigers claw". It literally shreds the wallpaper off of the wall.Anyone every use it?

A neutral rug or a new canvas dropcloth would tone down the green carpet then you could decorate the room as you like.

We just redid our kids room. Our little girl had ripped large sections of wall paper off the walls. What we used was equal parts hot water and fabric softerer in a spray bottle. You have to get unter the top layer of the paper thought. We had to pull the top layer off. It is messy but we did the whole room for around $16. And it makes the room smell good too

You have a huge job in front of you ---.I used goof off with a wallpaper tool that is supposted to make lotsa tiny holes in the paper to permit the chemical to reach under the paper. It took literally all day(10 hours)to remove a 12" by 30' border around my kitchen ceiling using this with a putty knife and the above mentioned tools.---A couple points--can you leave it ??--can you paint over it ?,--can you apply another wallpaper over it ??---If you tackle this be ready for a sore body and an entire day of hard work.

I just have to throw in my 2 cents...

Please *do not* paint, paper, or texture and paint *over* the wallpaper. I do not care how "well" it is "sealed" or how "good" of a job is done, it will be a pain for a future homeowner to remove and change. It will also most likely start to unseal or show signs of age or wear at some point (one tiny corner is all it takes) and then you have a task much larger than simply painting over something. If you don't like the border, please take it down before painting over it. Even if you put a border up in its place, please take the original one down first. Please also prep the wall correctly, too. One layer is much simpler to take off than two or more, especially if they've been sealed down and painted over.

A friend of mine used steam to get the wallpaper off her walls. She said it worked really well.

Well, this is what I am doing.Yes,people have told me not to put any wallpaper over the existing paper. They said it could bubble up and be a mess.I got a thing called "Tiger claw" it has these little blades on it and you go over the wall and it makes these small holes. Then the guy gave me this gel stuff that I spray on the wall.It is non-toxic and it doesn't give me a headache or anything. It is coming off nicely. You just have to repeatedly use that tiger claw and spray that gel stuff. After that I am going to paint the room and not put up another wallpaper border. The room is all white now and terribly boring. The carpet and the curtain valance is a dark hunter green.I already have lots of creamy colors in the house so I am kind of sick of that.I went with a light kind of creamy yellow.I was going to go with a light kind of foam green color but I think that would be too much greeen.Trying to stay out of the monochromatic scheme.I think it will look nice when I am done but it is quite a project. And this is a rental house. The owners told me that I can do whatever I want with the room.It now has little boy baseballs and baseball mitts on the wall.Very unfeminine.

Have taken wall paper and border down many times. It is a big job. The easiest is, go to the hardware store and rent a steamer. Have a scraper handy and get as much of the glue off that is under the border while it is still warm. You are going to have to wash the walls with hot water and soap and get the glue off or it will show under your paint. It will come off. Try not to leave any soap on the walls or the paint wont want to stick.

The wallpaper boarder is offBut it has left my walls looking a bit chewed up and with bits of paper and glue on them.I am going to have to ask the paint guy today about getting something to smooth them before I paint.
