Sometimes Wisconsin Public Radio plays classical music and that's the only reason why it gets its own preset button in my car. I turned it on yesterday and someone was talking about a man with pedophilic behavior which was apparently caused by a tumor. They tried to remove it and for a while his behavior was normal. However, the tumor grew back and the man began having pedophilic thoughts and feelings again. They removed the tumor a second time and, according to the man, the thoughts went away. The host then went on to question the amount of responsibility criminals have and what it means for our legal system. At this point I changed the station. Now, it certainly is possible for a tumor to influence our thoughts. During brain surgery the surgeon can push on certain parts of your brain and you might hear music or smell certain things. However, I truly believe that these incidents are few and far between. Society loves to place the blame for their problems on anyone or anything besides themselves. "I can't help being an alcoholic! I was born this way!" "I can't help being a drug addict! I have an illness!" "I can't help being a pedophile! The devil made me do it!" Unless there's an actual physical cause for abnormal behavior, such as a tumor or mental illness, your behavior is entirely up to you.

This makes me boil with anger. I know we are to have compassion for the lost, but I have a really hard time feeling anything but loathing for these vile predators. They care nothing about the children they abuse. As far as the so called experts who claim that pedophilia is harmless, I doubt the victims of Jerry Sandusky would agree.
