For some reason many authors have chosen to ignore this subject, and instead focused on the Emerging Church & the WOF movements. I do not know why as the New Spirituality seems to have a wider influence than the other movements. Just read any career book to see what I mean. Anyways this a great read. Some of it is a little dated but overall its very informative.

To me the reason authors are concentrating on the Emergent Church, WOF and seeker churches is because those churches and their leaders are like "Sheep in wolves clothing".

Most Christians have heard and denied the New Age Movement as false, but many, many people go to these WOF and other churches that don't teach the Gospel, and are unaware (a lot of them) or are in denial their teaching is false. These churches are unscriptural, and people may not know enough about the Gospel to see they are being duped into a false sense of being "saved". So many of these churches are "mega" and have a lot of people attending.

These churches scare me as I feel they are leading so many away into false doctrine.

So, I think those authors are concentrating on advising people to stay away from them OR some authors could be trying to convince them to "seek" these false churches. It requires a lot of discernment on the part of a Christain. It requires our prayers and the Holy Spirit to lead new or potential Christians (along with these books against these churches) to know the difference.

The New Age Movement is still very prevelant here and a thing to be dealt with. But there seems to be an urgency about the new churches dominating the scene. All have the same leader....the "enemy" and probably the New Age may some influence in the "seeker church".

    I Tim. 4:1-2 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; 2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;

Matthew 7:15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

I know what you mean. I read a lot of business books on how to run and succeed or motivate etc, and they all have some kind of spiritual part to the book with the authors ideas. I have a hard time with these books because God is not part of their reasoning and ideas which for me makes it almost fruitless. I try and take what I can and apply it, yet keep God as the focal point.

You are probably right. However in my situation the new age has hit me harder for several reasons. One is I am trying to find a new career or a better paying job and so I have sought out Career books & even Christian career books. And second I have read some relationship books as I am single, and also some financial books. The new age teachings have crept into these books, and they have influenced me a little. I have sought and tried and tried and tried to find my "dream job" but for whatever reason I have failed and God has not opened that door to a job that would be like play. Some have been successful but I have not. According to the teachings of John MacArthur, Charles Stanley, Lutzer and others God may or may not provide me with a dream job.

MacArthur & Stanley & Lutzer may not agree in areas of Calvinism & Arminianism, but they all agree on topics of daily christian living and Biblical principles and I found their sermons to be like minded in these areas.

At this time I kinda feel like a failure because I am single, have not been able to pay back my loans, do not have my dream job, and such. This is why the new age teachings I have read in these career books have hurt me...

I've used my unemployment time researching the Bible and listening to sermons on line. When I get a job I'll have far less time to do these things.

You sound like you are being diligent in your search for a job and the only thing I'm stuck on is your search for your "dream job". This is the sort of thinking thrown out by the writing you are critiquing. Matthew 6 is a great chapter to read and verses 33 and 34 give great advice and comfort for your situation. Try putting this into practise and set aside your *how to* books for the moment. Meanwhile we have a thread current for those in need of employment, add yourself to the list and see what God can do for you, you too NoProvision

Evangelist, First off, you are not a failure! Every one of us who may still have goals to achieve, and haven't reached those goals yet; they are not failures! You either. You are putting too much pressure on yourself.

Second, you may just have to lower your expectations as you begin. I don't know what "market" you are looking at, but many, many people are in the same boat and trying to find their ideal job. Most of us started out with just a job and the experiences you get allows you to move up. My son-in-law got his MBA a couple of years ago. He is gradually working his way up to the type of job he wants. Each step he gets experience to qualify for a better position and his salary is improving with that climb. It's a process...His degree helped with that climb, but he had to work to achieve his goals. He, too, has a lot of student loans. But none of this came in a instruction book on how to obtain a job he so he could just "play". It came with hard work, starting lower than expected, and climbing up the ladder as he worked-and he's worked hard and long hours.

I'm a bit curious, how have these new age teachings in these books influenced you? Are you saying these books give you the knowledge to achieve those goals you want and it hurts you because you want to use them to obtain your goals and shouldn't?

Reading and putting into practice are two different things. Books are wonderful, but they won't give you what you want. God blesses us with so much, but I don't think He promises to give us a dream job. He promises to take care of us. That's what's important. Focus on thanking Him for what you have, not on what He will give you. You might find that will help a great deal.

I don't think you want a job obtained with the influence of the new age and their methods. It won't be a good choice. It's big time Deception

....What God has given you is the ability to discern, even at a young age, and its a blessing to even realize that these books contained new age practices. The Holy Spirit gives us that decernment so we stay away from this false religion, cults, evil practice and doctrine. I've read quite a few books on the new age, and it is sneaky.

I think the only book you need is The Bible. I know you are looking for a guide to life and to help you secure the job you want and need and to have a good relationship. With God's help you can reach goals, but let me just say experience is the key.

I don't know how old you are-young people waiting for His return maybe feeling they need to acheive their goals before He comes for us. God's timetable will be perfect and He tells us he wants us to "occupy till He comes". Do what you can to achieve your goals with HIS blessings.

Rather than rely on those other books why not pray instead. Pray that God will send you to the right job for you and will help you meet someone who will be a wonderful mate to you. (And, remember do not be unequally yoked with an unbeliever). You may just find both in the same place.

Amen!!! The NIV makes the text come more alive than the literal translations in many places and this is one of them. No I have a job, I just need a job that can get me out of debt, and my income is not enough for the massive debts that I have. Its not an issue of spending, its an issue of income. Crown Financial told me not to worry about it, but just do what I can until the Lord provides that job with the income that I need. They said my income is not enough so there is nothing I can do about it.

Thank you for this advice. I am 34 and the career books are telling me all I need is vision, dreamsj, and ambition and I will go and find my dream job. Books like 48 days to the Work you Love, No More Mondays, Quitter, and such are books with this new age self-help teachings. I have tried to dialogue with those in these circles on their own message boards on their site, and they always put the blame on me as to why I have not achieved my career goals. I have worked my tail off trying to find a better paying position so I can pay back my student loans but I have failed so far. However reading John MacArthur's Anxious for Nothing, I would say that God has me where I am for a reason. The self-help career books may have bible verses here and there, but they are not based on scripture!!!

I do not agree that the only book I need is the Bible, as career books are helpful for listing websites, niche sites, resume, networking tips, and other helpful advice. I think my problem is when I buy into the new age philosophy in the books and that is life is all about me and finding my dream job and my dream house. The Book Radical has been a blessing on putting that dream to the Lord and only He can give that. So I shall read the career books for website listings, resume samples, networking tips, etc.. But when they get into philosophy just completely ignore them. The Bible is my guide in all matters of Philosophy and a way of life.

As a matter of Biblical discernment I no longer post on a certain message board asking for career advice because they are gonna give me the dream job speech and tell me how bad I am because I have failed to find my dream job. I also no longer listen to his podcast on a regular basis as his advice is all secular. In one episode he said that to better market a product its best just to list positive Bible verses, and do not talk about sin, redemption, Lordship, hellfire, etc.. Thats a Pluralistic gospel!

Your attitude is great and just knowing the Lord knows about all our tomorrows and the needs for each one, should give you confidence that if necessary, He will direct you to a better paying job. Have added you to my prayer list. The Be Anxious For Nothing book has some good stuff in it and along with keeping up with job prospects in other avenues you are exploring, I'm sure things will turn around for you.

Thank you my friend. You see those those boards would blame it all on me, because they have been influenced by WOF & New Age teachings. They would say that I am "negative" and not a dreamer. In their mind everything is all positive and self-fulfillment is the bottom line goal. Osteen has a HUGE influence among many in that circle.

I have that one and its fine. The writing style is a bit more boorish over 48 Days, but its not a self-help book like 48 Days.
