Default Is Global Warming/Environmentalism a Cult?

    From Cal Thomas:

    http://920wgka.townhall.com/Columnis...7-5bdad1462cad
The Church of Global Warming (CGW) is a cult. A cult has a number of definitions, among them this one from dictionary.com: “A religion or sect considered to be false, unorthodox, or extremist, with members often living outside of conventional society under the direction of a charismatic leader.” Cults wish to control others. Global warming fundamentalists wish to do the same through the power of government.

CGW members would reject cult status — which all cult members do — and Al Gore has never been accused of displaying charisma. But the CGW confers charismatic status on him because he tells them what they want to hear: salvation is available through the reduction of one’s carbon footprint. Gore regularly violates his own doctrines by flying on big polluting jets, leaving tracks the size of Bigfoot.
Al Gore does remind me of a slimy televangelist when he's pumping up the global warming junk.

Yes, IMO this is a religion and it's going to play a major role in the coming One World Religion.

People are choosing to worship the creation rather than the Creator.

Al Gore can't seem to move his shoulders. He's so...stiff. And scary-looking. How'd you like a poster with his face hanging above your bed?

I think it is human nature to want to believe in something, and since many of them do not believe in God, they worship the earth instead. The leaders of this movement know this and are using it to further their agenda.

I don't think enviromentalists per se are a cult as we areto be good stewards to the earth.

Rev 9 the locusts are commanded not to hurt the earth, then there's this warning..

Rev 11:18 And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.

Countless other verses about warnings of hurting the earth for all of creation groans to God.

Rom 8:22 For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.

Heb 6:7 For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God:

Many more verses along the same lines that the earth was given to us as a blessing to give us food and resources and all of God's creation here on earth is aware of Him, even the earth herself. So caring for the earth is a good thing. I think people in their polarity to find stereotypes have a hard time finding a balance that not all people who care for the earth are "worshiping the creation more than the Creator" and people who care nothing about environment concerns are wasteful.

There's a big difference between caring for the earth and worshiping creation. I think it's pretty simple, if the person states they are worshiping creation as God - gaia and mother earth stuff, then they are a cult. If they aren't saying that, then maybe they are into something you don't understand or don't know. It's better to err on the side of caution than to blaspheme that which God has laid into someone's heart which would be from the Holy Spirit

If they dont say they are earth worshipers then how can you say they are?

I'm commenting on the original topic here, not really the article which I didn't find fitting to the topic. Is Church of Global Warming a cult woudl have been a much more appropriate topic imho, for that I have no clue I dont go there. But enviromentalism a cult? No, not anymore than carting for foster children or collecting baseball cards is a cult, rather it'sa concern and a passiion that is maybe one's calling in life.

One last point, global warming is as real as ice ages but as I've said for years - is linked to sun cycles solar max and solar min and things we do not understand about space such as plasma, cosmic rays, and interstellar particles too small to even measure. These affect ages and climates and have been thoroughly documented throughout the ages from Egypt to the Mayans to NOAA weather and NASA.

    What??

No way. Global warming is a scientifically documented phenomenon and is something very real that affects everybody. It has absolutely nothing to do with your religious beliefs or lack thereof, in fact, Christians especially should care because we are told to be stewards of the Earth and take care of the world we live in to the best of our ability with God's help and blessing. I can't imagine why anyone would think it is a cult. There is no deity in global warming -- you can believe in God, Allah, Buddah or whatever and still understand that the things we do to the earth have an impact. You don't have to believe in some wacky nature goddess to care that problems are happening and that we might have the power to slow, stop or reverse them.

I'm just curious, what does anyone stand to gain by saying there is global warming if it isn't true? Nothing, basically. But there is a lot of stake in saying it isn't true, especially for the oil industry, automotive industry and many other companies that get rich of damaging the environment. If global warming is a real problem, we stand to suffer for it. I believe in God, but I don't think God wants people to just stand around shrugging their shoulders in a crisis. God helps those who help themselves. Not to act on the concerns of global warming is as foolish as standing around not caring when there is a rape, a murder, an earthquake, a flood, a hurricane or a war.

The Global Warming movement is a cult. It askews people's views, and creates a movement that includes New Agers and Environmentalist. Their view has nothing to do with Christian stewartship of the Earth and it's inhabitance it's based on the goddess concept and evidently our environment is affected by of all things, now hodl on to your hats folks, cause this one is going to blow you away. But aparently our enviroment is affected by...sin! Yes I know that it's hard to believe, but it has been proven that sin is the cause of Natural Disasters and yes, Global Warming! Shocking isn't it? Since the creation and fall of Adam and Eve, we have been progressing toward this end time scenerio...now, is the time that all good Christians to turn their hearts and mind back to the Creator....

Plus we all know how scientist are so forthcoming and right about everything, from evolution to string theory. They dont know how to distort the facts to create truth out of half fictions, now do they? Naw, we can trust the scientific community to always tell the truth. They wouldn't dare feed the public a pack of lies just to further their agenda. Now would they?

When we got hit by an April snowstorm last spring, and as I sit looking out at the snow as I type, and feeling the cold, it's hard to feel panicked about global warming like some people act. This summer was also cooler than most. I know it's supposedly a cumulative effect, but there are much greater problems in society, IMO, to worry about, and we as Christians don't feel the panic because we know something much greater awaits us when we die. That is why Christians aren't as concerned, as a whole, about global warming. We know our time on this earth is just temporary. Activists for the cause have nothing else to look forward to beyond this earth.

Global warming is really happening. Ice from glaciers and polar ice caps are melting -- this can only come from overall warming or changes in weather patterns. I don't really see driving a more efficient car, and walking more, as any sort of religious movement.

Global warming is right from the pit of hell..it is a lie and should not be believed......

our LORD has already warned us that when we see the earth going through major changes we are to understand these are birth pangs,,,read matt 24--luke 21--mk 13-

Global warming is just another way the devil can decive people into beliving somthing else....."dont fall for it".!!!!!!

    Rev 11:18 And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great;
and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.
this is most likly speaking of the powerful rich greedy men that dont care about nothing but making money.....

ive read articles about a pole shift and how the earth is shifting off its axasess right now and that the north and south pole will reverse..
thats why when whales beach themselfs its because the compass in there brain is off because the north and south are off so instead of going there usuall route they go off course...
true or not i dont know ...

however another thing i find interesting is the scientist say the pole shift is gonna cause majore catastroffic events...basicly the earth will flip upside down....

well if this is true the LORD said he woul already do it read all of isaiah ch-24

Isa 24:1 ¶ Behold, the LORD maketh the earth empty, and maketh it waste, and turneth it upside down, and scattereth abroad the inhabitants thereof.
its said the pole shift can be fully flipped by 2012.....

Luk 21:10 Then said he unto them, Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom:

Luk 21:11 And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.

    Luk 21:25 ¶ And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;

Luk 21:26 Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.

Personally, no its not a cult...just another tactic to try and put fear on the people.

About 400 years ago the world went through something similar to this. Was it a cult when the "Ice Age" came upon the world?

As another poster said it, its hard to see "global warming" when we are feeling the cold now. And as a poster said, its just the birth pangs we are seeing, feeling, and hearing about. Those in Christ can truly see them and they are coming more often than years ago. Soon the birth comes and we in Christ are out of here.

Do you know what's really scary? Hitler was a mad man but look how many listened and followed him and worked to bring out his insane plans. The power isn't in Al Gore or any of these false leaders, it is in the people who give these crazies the power by being pulled in by them. Why is it that many people don't look deeper into things and just take these nutz at face value?

Anyone who has studied end time prophecy in the Bible knows why the weather has changed and it is NOT GLOBAL WARMING. God said why these changes will and shall occur in HIS WORD. Those who have swallowed the lie of Global Warming must not have read the Bible and the end-time prophecies or they disbelieve the Word of God simply put.

There is nothing that Al Gore or any other person can do about the birth pangs. These are the beginnings of sorrows. Our climate and weather events will become increasingly more turmultuous. The Lord says these are the beginnings of labor. Gore and his cronies can call it "global warming" till the cows come home, but as Christians we know it is the signs of the times. Now does that mean we can trash our earth? NO! we are to be good stewards nevertheless. Dont be wasteful, dont pollute, dont litter, etc..... Should we run out and purchase Carbon Credits??? pulleeeeeezze!!! I dont think so. Cuz no matter how many carbon credits Gore can peddle, it is NOT going to stop what is going to happen and is beginning to happen.
