We don't have kids and we live in a building that the neighborhood kids can't get into for trick or treating, so Halloween is a non-issue for us.

Oh, and I don't decorate my classroom for Halloween.. I skip it altogether. Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine's Day... name the holiday, I decorate for it. But not Halloween.

    I agree on all points.

I would like to ask a question of everyone.
Does anyone else besides me believe there is a much stronger influence of denomic activity that can be attributid to the ever increasing interest in Halloween?

No I do not and I used to be involved in Occult, the real Occult where dark incantations were involved. I think sometimes we major on the minors. A few pumpkins and orange lights are not leading our children to hell (99.99%) of them do not even connect Halloween with the Occult but simply view it as a fun day to dress up and get candy.
Satan would keep us focused on fighting over "halloween" rather then focus on what really is influencing our children - the PC culture and the school system that teaches and the declining of morals in our society, TV, rap music, trashy clothing for girls. sex etc. THAT is the real danger not pumpkins and candy.

I like something my pastor said one time on this whole halloween protest issue. He said he wanted our church ( a Calvary Chapel ) to be known for what we believed in and stood for ( Jesus, the Cross, the forgiveness of sin, repentance, loving each others) rather then to be known for all the things we are against.

I think we will win more souls to Christ by telling them about Him and what He has done for us and how to accept Him then pointing fingers about pumpkins and having Hell Houses. I'm sure many of you will disagree with me, that's fine, but this is my opinion.

I agree and we are totally not participating on any level this year......

It's not so much those who are directly involved in the occult, as those who are easily influenced by the occultic things in every day life. It's becoming mainstream. Once that happens there is no going back.

this is true, but its not necessarily justification for celebrating halloween, either.

isn't it interesting how so often the christian population is more willing to uphold the things of the world and traditions of man instead of those things that God has said to set apart (including but not limited to OT feasts such as passover, etc.)?
i don't celebrate them (but i have celebrated passover at a jewish friend's house in the past...and would actually prefer that to easter. lol...), so i am not throwing stones, here, by any means...but.. when people ask me why i don't celebrate hallowen and get all huffy puffy because of the reason i don't, and then are the same people who insiste that we don't have to (or shouldn't) celebrate any OT feasts bc we are no longer under the law but under 'grace'...well...it just makes ya wanna go hmmmmm, doesn't it?

and yet the bible tells us in so many places to be separate from the pagan traditions and not to look like the world, etc. etc...

    it just really makes me

I agree. I was just pointing out that the 'WWJD' argument shouldnt be used casually. Its an 'all or nothing' proposition...

The catholic "alternative" to "all hallows eve" or halloween.

I dont, as a biblical christian, celebrate any catholic decreed holidays as such.

Catholocism got its start by assimilating ancient idol worship and pagan rituals and watering them down into a more "religiously tolerable" form. It's still idol worship and pagan rituals at its core.

Thank you for explaining this for me. I sure didn't know what "All Saint's day" was about. Again I thought it was a good day, but now I know the truth of the matter.

As the influence of Christianity spread into Celtic lands, in the 7th century, Pope Boniface IV introduced All Saints' Day, a time to honor saints and martyrs, to replace the pagan festival of the dead. It was observed on May 13. In 834, Gregory III moved All Saint's Day from May 13 to Nov. 1 and for Christians, this became an opportunity for remembering before God all the saints who had died and all the dead in the Christian community. Oct. 31 thus became All Hallows' Eve ('hallow' means 'saint').

Sadly, though, many of the customs survived and were blended in with Christianity. Numerous folk customs connected with the pagan observances for the dead have survived to the present.

In 1517, a monk named Martin Luther honored the faithful saints of the past by choosing All Saints Day (November 1) as the day to publicly charge the Church heirarchy with abandoning biblical faith. This became known as "Reformation Day," a fitting celebration of the restoration the same biblical faith held by the saints throughout church history.

I went into Target the other day and I was baffled. The store had a section of Halloween items that took up at least eight aisles. Seems as if they have more stuff to celebrate Halloween than they do to Christmas items.

When I go into stores that have these decorations, I get a very awful feeling inside. I was in Michael's Craft Store this week and they had this head in a box and the eyes lit up, looked around and made a horrid noise. That plus the other "dark" stuff, really bothers my spirit. I was to run from it. Now.. I like pumpkins and Thanksgiving stuff a lot!

    Default Jesus not for losers.

I do not know what saying Jesus is for losers is about. However you are in serious danger at losing any chance for salavation. I am going to pray for you.
Dear Heavenly Father: I pray you would open the ears and eyes to the truth of your word. Put someone or something in their path that will let this person see the errors of their ways before it is to late.
In the Name of Jesus Amen.

My husband and I walk around our neighborhood every night, and there are a lot of Halloween decorations up! I don't remember seeing houses decorated for Halloween when I was young.

Not only that, but the decorations aren't just "cute" friendly ghosts and smiling pumpkins...I'm talking evil looking witches, skeletons, graveyard scenes, monsters.

Maybe you should check things out before you judge...I am in no danger of going to hell...Jesus died for my sins, and his blood covers me. I have accepted my savior.

Jesus is for losers is a song...Here's the complete set of lyrics...

    Jesus Is For Losers

If I was driven, driven ahead by some noble ideal
    Who took the wheel?
If I was given, given a glimpse of some glorious road
    When was it sold?
So caught up in the chase
    I keep forgetting my place

    Just as I am
    I am stiff-necked and proud
    Jesus is for losers
Why do I still play to the crowd?
    Just as I am
    Pass the compass, please
    Jesus is for losers
I'm off about a hundred degrees

If I was groping, groping around for some ladder to fame
    I am ashamed
If I was hoping, hoping respect would make a sturdy footstool
    I am a fool
    Bone-weary every climb
    Blind-sided every time

    Just as I am
    I am needy and dry
    Jesus is for losers
    The self-made need not apply
    Just as I am
    In a desert crawl
    Lord, I'm so thirsty
    Take me to the waterfall

And if you're certain, certain your life is some cosmic mistake
    Why do you shake?
And if you're certain, certain that faith is some know-nothing mask
    Why do you still ask?
They don't grade here on a curve
We both know what we deserve

    Just as you are
    Just a wretch like me
    Jesus is for losers
Grace from the blood of a tree
    Just as we are
    At a total loss
    Jesus is for losers
Broken at the foot of the cross

Written by Steve Taylor © 1993 Warner Alliance Music/Solyent Tunes ASCAP

Basically it means that we're all losers...Jesus came to save all of us losers.
