If you want some good tracts for children go to www.livingwaters.com

They have cartoon tracts for kids and coins w/ 10 commandments on them.

BTW: Loved the video Buzz. I personally love the flying monkeys.

It's only a few blocks from where we live and the noise and celebrations really make me feel uncomfortable, it's like they are celebrating Satan and all things evil. It's funny, I never heard of having a halloween parade until I moved to this town.

Several years ago, for halloween night, I decided to hand out candy with tract's. I'm thinking I may do it again this year, but am not sure if it is appropriate for a Christian participate in halloween, even if you are putting tracts and candy in the kids bags. In any event, what kind of tract's would be appropriate for a young child for halloween? It's been awile since I've browsed the tract's at our local bible store and I want something thats going to have an impact. I think the last time I found some type of tracts that were "cartoonish", hoping it would attract their attention more.

When I was young, my parents let me and my sister go trick or treating, even though we were a christian family and my dad was a pastor. I think they let us do that so we wouldn't feel left out, and because they felt it was harmless as long as we did'nt dress up as something evil. My feeling today about trick or treating is the same as my parents, although I still feel somewhat uncomfortable about it all, which makes me think that uneasy feeling is God talking to me.

So what do you do for halloween? Does your town have "halloween parades? Do you feel uncomforable like I do about participating in halloween, regardless of how innocent it seems?
I go back and forth on the halloween issue, but I've never been, and probably never will be, comfortable with it. The kid in me loves the candy, cute costumes and funness of it all. Then I'm reminded of what all the symbolism of halloween is about and how lauded it is among pagan religions like wiccans even today, and I just can't bring myself to actively participate in any of it.

I totally agree. When I go to the store, and all the decorations & stuff are out, I see skulls, ghosts, tombstones, blood... and other things that symbolize death and gore. I just can't celebrate a day that focuses so much on death. God said "Choose life".

I think I share your boat more than the others; sort of. I'm creeped out by some of amenities of Halloween (those skulls & graves & ghouls), especially since I know they're the talismen of Satanists and Goths. That said, I LOVE scarecrows and pumpkins. I love the smell of gingerbread. I love little Cinderellas showing up at my door.

I treasure the memories of my own youth, or the youth of my now grown children, when Halloween was such a fun evening - from planning to experiencing. I can still see my mother pouring over my booty (of the edible sort ) with a fine-tooth comb before allowing me to take one bite.

What saddens me is how unsafe & unfun Trick-or-Treatin' has become. But kudos to those that have crafted alternatives - most of which are God-honoring! Myself, I like the harmless corn mazes best.

When my children were very young and we had been believers for a few years we were impressed that the teachings in the Word of God didn't make room in our lives to celebrate darkness. We opted out. It was a personal choice that didn't come without some study and prayer. We never held other Christians to our standard as we believed that it was something that the Holy Spirit worked in us personally. Looking back, I am very glad that we made that decision. Over the years we have been faced with making other decisions that haven't been very popular. I think that the choice to not celebrate Halloween gave us a strength to not always follow the crowd but to seek the Lord's will for our lives.

We don't do Halloween. My DD7 was always afraid of the costumes and masks. We just take $10 - $20, go to the store and tell our daughter to pick out any candy she wants. Not only is it safe but it's cheaper when you wait until the day after and get all the candy on sale!

We don't do much for Easter either. We do teach and study about the crucifixion and resurrection but we don't do a lot of Easter things. We do a family dinner and my parents usually get our daughter candy but that's it. We do however celebrate Passover.

I personally could do without Christmas. The rest of my family can't seem to get over not having a pretty tree decorated in the house. For me, Christmas is too pagan. I know that Dec 25 was not the birth of Jesus and I don't think we need to have one particular day to celebrate the birth of our Lord. It should be something that is done on a daily basis.

    Default Christian holidays

Hi, in Christianity nowadays there is alot of Paganism such as Christmas and Easter.

The question I have is if we can't celebrate these when do we celebrate our L-rd Yeshuas birthday? and resurection?

    Thanks

    Default For me

I still recognize those days although I dont celebrate it the way the unsaved do. I also celebrate with our Jewish brethren the high holy days which are very much Biblical in order to get the full benefit.

You might want to find a good congregation in your area which is messianic in order to do this.

Celebrate with all your heart. When you belong to Jesus and your heart is right, you discern the true from the false. There isn't anything wrong with celebrating His birth, even if we don't know when it is for sure, or His resurrection!!!!!!! He is our Saviour and our Lord and we love Him....

Amen! Furthermore, as long as it's an option to do so, I will celebrate the joyous, festive secular aspect and the reverential sacred aspect of Christmas and Easter. Because that is the way to make the celebrations both joyous and meaningful.

That said, however, it is my hope and my prayer that we, the Body of Christ, will be celebrating His birthday around His throne this coming Christmas season! Yes, I hope and pray the Rapture is that close.

I also celebrate the holidays with gusto! The Lord has given us total freedom to participate if we so desire.

I also believe that with our freedom comes the responsibility to use holidays as a means of witnessing to people. As the world grows more antiChrist our joy & hope should stand out on these "pagan holidays" ..... days that Christians usurped to glorify the Lord long ago.

I do not take part in any Pagan holidays. I really dont care if the whole world celebrates Christmas on December 25, or Halloween on October/November, etc. - i will never participate in any of them. I dont care if will be an oddball, or a party-pooper, I will never participate in any pagan holidays. Although we are freed by the Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, we should never be yolked with unbelievers. And although we are still in this world, we are no longer OF this world.

BTW, Jesus Christ was born on Sukkot, and not on December 25.

I am a bit strange, I like Halloween and all the Holidays that follow. I give out candy with pocket new testaments from here and watch Old movies like Abbott and Costello.

Jahim - That's fine, for you.

The problem is if anyone feels superior to or looks down on those fellow believers who celebrate the Lord's birth or resurrection on Christmas and Resurrection Day, thinking they are participating with pagans or being unequally yoked. The Bible is clear in Colossians, don't let anyone judge another regarding holidays, Sabbaths, etc. - period.

    Jesus makes us free!

And it is not clear that Jesus was born on Sukkot. Some scholars think it may have been in the fall.

I think His true birth day is hidden to us, for reasons that please God.

And if His children want to take one day in the year to especially honor and rejoice that "a Child was born, a Son was given" out of love and gratitude and worship, I am personally convinced that the Lord is pleased. That's me. Not you? Fine.

Again, we are not to judge one another in this regard. His peace to you.
