Thread: Windows Media Player alternatives?

    Default Windows Media Player alternatives?

Are there any good, completely free, alternatives to Windows Media Player? Something that has all of the functionality without the vulnerabilities? I need something that has the same toolbar option. WMP, when minimized to the taskbar as a toolbar, can be controled by a multimedia keyboard when I'm playing games. Is there anything else that dose that?

I just found out that Itunes has a similar taskbar feature. However, I can't control it with my multimedia keyboard. Though I can't even control WMP with my keyboard once I'm in a game.

I would use iTunes if it wasn't for all of the helper services.
Somehow, WMP lets me control it with my keyboard when I'm playing games. Maybe it helps to use a MS keyboard.

I use VLC all the time for movies. I don't use it for music much because it doesn't have a library feature.

i hate iTunes, it's such an octopus...

I use WinAmp (not the latest version though). Great little program. Hotkey function works if you get a free plugin off of the web site. It does have iPod capability as well, but the built in plugin doesn't work as well as one you can find elsewhere

musikcube, nothing fancy but it works great. It minimizes to a tray icon and still lets me use the shortcut keys while I'm doing other things.
If I could find Amorok for Windows I would use that.
