Hi, guys! I wanted to share this with you...
A while back, my two year old started getting a red rash with white little bumps on his tushie area. i remembered seeing a commercial on tv about babies having yeast infections and how you can get your doctor to prescribe a special cream for them. i wanted to call the doctor, but
moms, you know the drill!
call the doctor
make an appointment
take baby to appointment
baby is cranky because he's missed his nap (due to appointment) AND his tushie feels bad
sit in waiting room
sit in exam room
baby is fussy because you probably ran out of cookies
doctor looks at tushie (baby DOES NOT LIKE THAT)
prescribes cream stuff
go to pharmacy
finally, get cream stuff, and get home, and treat that tushie.
....sheesh! who has that kind of time??
so, i called my hubby. he's a hospital corpsman in the Navy (training to be an IDC now). he's got a photographic memory, so he's like a walking textbook! he told me to let him have a look at it when he got home.
later that evening, he took a look, and went to the shoe closet. he came back with a yellow cannister of Desenex foot powder.
Whoa! i said. you're not putting foot powder on my baby's bottom!?
then he explained that a yeast infection is called different things depending on where it is on the body. the same medicine cures it no matter where it is. our desenex has 2% miconazole nitrate, which is an antifungal. a couple shakes of it on the baby's bottom, and a few hours later, the rash was gone!
i have been using this method for awhile. only use it when the rash appears, and it doesn't take much. goes without saying, but be vigiliant in keeping that area clean and dry.
next time i saw that commercial, i paid special attention, and noticed that the cream they show has the exact same active ingredient, in the exact same concentration (2%). i had to give hubby a big kiss and a hug for saving me so much time and hassle....and i wanted to pass it along to all of you.
***DISCLAIMERr*** of course, i'm not a doctor! if your baby has other symptoms besides the rash (like a fever, or nausea, for example) go ahead and take him/her to the doctor. also, if this rash happens alot, a checkup may be a good idea. my baby gets this only once in a while.
Blessings to all of you other mommies out there!
