Yes, it is a cult. They are part of the Kingdom Now movement, which basically teaches that either 1) the Book of Revelation has already occurred and the Kingdom of God is currently being perfected by today's believers or 2) the Book of Revelation is totally symbolic.

Can you help me with this some more??? I've recently run into an old friend who believes this, but I have very little understanding of it to be able to refute it, and most importantly do you have scripture to help in the discussion? Also, what about the movement makes it a cult?

    Thanks,

    Diane

Believes in the latter rain/Kingdom Come stuff, or specifically Mike Bickle? I'll certainly be glad to give you more information, just give me a bit of time.

The Kingdom Now movement. They believe Nero was the AntiChrist and that the Kingdom of God is being perfected for His return, not getting worse as pre-tribers believe.

    Thanks again!!

Yes, do a search (google, yahoo) on Kansas City Fellowship. He is associated with "prophet" Paul Cain. They are and have been teaching a false gospel.

Ok, sorry it took so long; I was at work and it's not something that can be posted quickly.

And before I begin, let me preface with this is going to be generalizations; there are many variations just as there are various Baptist denominations. So you may know of one group or person who may not believe a certain aspect, but the general characteristics will stand.

The Bible speaks in several places of 'latter rain' which is interpreted as being another outpouring of the Holy Spirit akin to Pentecost. Therefore, those who recieve the latter rain are considered 'apostles' who are able to do miraculous works as the early apostles did, such as raising the dead, speaking in tongues, and receiving new revelations of God's Word. The leaders of this movement are considered a spiritual elite, sometimes called 'overcomers', because it will be they who overcome death on earth. They believe that their mission is to perfect God's kingdom on earth now, thus the 'Kingdom Now' term. The rapture doesn't mean that Jesus will remove us from this earth before the Tribulation, but rather the rapturous feeling we'll have when give this world to God as His kingdom after we restore it for Him.

Their teachings are...unorthodox, to say the least. Here is one quote from Mike Bickle, the person originally asked about:

''God intends us to be like gods, he intends us to be like the Son of God. ... God has conceived in His heart of a plan to make a race of men that would live like gods on the Earth. He has conceived in His heart to have Sons that would live like His Son, the Lord Jesus lived... That we were to be on earth the extension and manifestation of God's life in heaven.''

I'm not a good apologist, so if you want to dig deeper into it, I can give some sites to go to learn more.

having a different view of the end times does not make a group a cult. Doctrinal error does not equal cult. I don't like Kingdom Now theology but I wouldn't call it a cult, either.

In the next 4 years this is the only "change" I'm looking forward to...
1Cr 15:52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

I was wondering this myself. My pastor has said in the past, "that's ok if you don't believe in the Rapture. I'll just explain it to ya on the way up! )

Default This was actually how I stumbled across this forum!

I love Jesus ok, A LOT and the thing is I look for people who love Jesus and I had this friend who kept telling me "Jen you gotta see what God is doing out here, you have to come out here to Kansas City and see what the Lord is doing, its revival Jen" Well remember when Jesus said "If anyone says to you, look here in the inner rooms, or look there in the desert, do not believe, do not follow them, for many false christs and false prophets will rise up and decieve many, if possible, even the elect will be decieved"

Well to make a long story short, I almost was, my question to him was "What God is doing there, couldnt He do it here?" And also, here is something really creepy, whenever I went to "Google Search" Ihop + cult or the keywords "Is IHOP a Cult" or "Is Mike Bickle a false teacher?" or "Mike Bickle + False Prophet" Guess who happened to buy about SEVEN PAGES worth of results from Google.... none other than Mike Bickle and IHOP themselves ... kinda creepy, kinda horrible, also I met this guy....

Who likes to mess with people and he shouldnt but he went to IHOP wearing a teeshirt that said in spanish "Im drunk and dont give a damn" because of the reason in James where it says if someone comes in lookin like garbage and you treat him bad, havent you become evil men and placing judgment?

Anyways, during their worship service he felt led of the Spirit to go annoint this young lady with oil and pray for her, which was mild in comparison to the worship that was going on "Hooting hollaring, dancing to God" anyways, within minutes this guy was surrounded by security and escorted outside, asked NOT to annoint anyone because he was not on IHOP intercessory prayer teams or staff of Ihop etc.... so had he not been a stronger Christian, he said he was hurt so bad and felt so rejected he wanted to walk away from 'christianity' all together.... (((hugs))) its Jesus rejection....

Anyways, Beware of false prophets Jesus said, which means there are some.... test all spirits in light of Scripture, God gave me a big NO NO on this place, it seems like a spiritual crack house so to speak, forgive me for being so blunt but this place had me messed up for two weeks, from 2000 miles away.... pray for those who are misled that God would open their eyes but ultimtaely what God is showing me, is those who ARE His sheep will follow only Him and they will not follow a stranger because they dont know the Voice of the stranger, only the real sheep of God know the real voice of the good Shepherd....

Hope this helps, love a lot
    jen

A friend of mine told me he was planning to do an internship at International House of Prayer (Mike Bickle) and I told him to be careful, that I had heard he was part of the Kingdom Now stuff. But go to the IHOP website and look under "beliefs and controversies". They address this very thing and specifically refute the Kingdom Now, Latter Rain, Joel's Army, etc doctrines. Check it out.

I agree. Latter Rain Movement has some very heretical teachings, but does not deviate from the essential view of how salvation is obtained. Jesus Christ is still the only way to God within their SOF.

    HOWEVER....

They are teaching some nutty stuff, and some very dangerous doctrines of Replacement Theology, Extreme Dominion/Kingdom Now stuff and I do not put it past some of the founders being wolves and false shepherds. As in any large group like this however, there are many marked for destruction, but there are more that will just come with us when the Trumpet sounds and we will hug them around the throne and sing the same song. They may just have a few more tears for Jesus to wipe away then some.

I say stay far from them, but be discerning and knowledgable to lead others from their error if God puts them in your path.
    Jesus you are my rescue!

Default If anyone says to you go there or here do not believe

I also had a friend who got sucked into this place ... from the get go it seems ok, very into the five fold ministry, and they have a worship room to sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to one another...

living a lifestyle of prayer and fasting ... taking the sayings of Jesus and doing them.... Matt 5 6 and 7

For those of us who are not being fed properly from our churches, and are really hungry for the word of God (to the point of obesity lol) it would seem like a great place to go to get more teachings from other brothers and sisters who love God but as I dove deeper into this place I realized some things that are just out of wack ... one, their extreme over usage of the bridegroom paradigm ... ie teaching we are the bride which is true, but then some really nutty teachings on the Song of Solomon, how God will declare the end from the beginning, and how in the beginning God had a garden in His heart and He wanted a bride .... it gets even weirder, I would pray that you try to show with absolute LOVE only that we need to follow the Bible ultimately and only the Bible.... They do not believe in the rapture, and they believe that only the good enough saints will be here on earth for Jesus when His millenial Kingdom comenses.

The people at Ihop are spiritual fat cats so to speak, they have a lot of head knowledge of the Bible and the word of God and they are notorious for taking it all out of context this is what had me shivering in a bathtub @ 3am not too long ago....

But remember the true sheep of Jesus will follow only Him, they will by no means follow a stranger, Jesus said in John 10:5 that they His sheep will run from a stranger.

Pray for this friend of yours, please pray for mine as well, his name is Rob and I love this young man deeply, but hes greviously erring.... hes running himself physically and spiritually into the ground. Even the difference in his eyes from six months ago until now, its death all over him, its so sad

Anyone who gets sucked into this cult will... They think because we 'speak evil of them' they are to "rejoice and be exceedingly glad for joy because great is their reward in heaven."

Also here is an excellent post from a guy who went to IHop to visit and didn't have any preconceived notions other than not so hot love for relgious people .... http://forum.rickross.com/viewtopic....dcbd28ef5c817f
