I have always appreciated Francis Shaeffers contributions on showing historically how cultures throughout history have disintegrated. And how important the Gospel really is.

Hey Buzz, I got the first link to work yesterday (Rome) and it was wonderful... I want to watch the rest but I can't get the site to open. Do I just need to wait & try later?

Do these all come from one documentary?

I was thinking they might make an interesting small group study.

A strong message that I have taken from this is the danger of apathy and too big government.

    Websters:

Individualistic and critical spirit, and emphasis on secular concerns.

A philosophy that usually rejects supernaturalism and stresses an individual's dignity and worth and capacity for self-realization through reason.

My interpretation: Following one's own desires instead of God's desires.

This is a great question!! I had started working on my PhD in Nursing a few years ago and dropped out after 2 semesters because "Humanism" was the guiding "religion" in the program. To me, humanism is the belief that humans can control our own destiny by manipulation of ourselves, our environment and our world. It is the belief that we are the ultimately authority over the earth and it is absolutely imperative that everyone else take up this belief in order for the earth to survive. It is the guiding force behind globalism, the green movement, organizations such as PETA and the Sierra Club, and government initiatives such as smoking bans and laws that govern what restaurants can serve.

Buzz, I really appreciate you posting this video! I saw the first one on Humanism and I was blown away by the way he presented this. This man speaks on the humanist level...his intelligence and philosophical tone makes it almost seem as if he is one of them (humanist philosopher), but yet explains that humanism is wrong and then all of a sudden...comes out and talks about the Bible and its truths. What a guy!

Look, please tell me who this man is. I want to send the video to my dad because he is wrapped up tight in humanistic philosophy...and thinks he is so right and we Christians are delusional. I am hoping that you will tell me this man used to be a humanist philosopher turned Christian...now THAT would get my dad's attention...I think.

Please get back with me soon on who this man is. Thanks!

    This is amazing.

I mean lets face it the humanist new age thinkers of our time would never give 2 seconds of their time to listen to someone like a John Hagee or any of the other preachers who simply preach the Word.

But this guy is coming across on a lvl that these high thinkers could only reject out of shear petulance and a real unwillingness to find out what the truth really is.

cause he explains the absurdity of humanism in clear and incontrovertible terms.

The ironic part about humanism focusing on humans instead of God is that they are also the ones who devalue human life at every turn. Those at the ends of the bell curve of usefulness, babies in the womb and the elderly, are not given much value. Animals are given equal footing with humans. They expect the government to take care of people in need, yet ignore the dismal results of such intervention and don't become personally involved.

I always think of humanism as man on the throne that belongs to the Lord alone.

I'm only on the fourth one, but so far, these are wonderful looks into Christian History. Thanks, Buzz!!! A couple of questions for you...

    1) I would love to download the videos so I can watch them on my pc (or ipod, if possible) when not connected to the internet. Do you know if it is possible for me to do that without a membership?

    2) For some reason, the voice is not quite synchronized with the video when I play them. Do you know of any tips to resolve that?

    3) Who is the host? He seems very knowledgeable!!

I might be able to fix that by re-encoding the videos
