Default Take a DEEP Breath of Jesus!

I smoked a pack sometimes 2 a day for ten years .... when God got ahold of me, (a few months after quitting weed, booze, and fornication and such)

He asked me for the $ that I would spend on the cigs So I was obedient, I wanted to quit, i felt like it was totally blowing my testimony for Jesus to smoke and flick the cigs out the window and then have a fish sticker on my car .... so I was obedient like i said, I gave God the $ that I would have normally given to the tobacco companies.... which was about $40 a week can you say ouch!

Anyways, its been a year and a half since that happened and I happy to Praise God because His power is made perfect in my weakness.... I praise Him everyday because Hes given me the power to say No to sin and cigs as a habitual lifestyle.... Thanks to the Holy Spirit.

On my own I was too weak to quit on my own, but I laid it on His alter and He took it away from me. Thank you Jesus!

But I refuse to give up.
Thats it MD. Dont give up. It took about 2 full weeks for the pills to really kick in for me. I still think about smoking, but not as often. And its not as hard to choose not to.

    Mercyandgrace,

I quess the bigest comment I have seen is the idol issue. You are correct in your statement and I think you may be right but still not 100%.

I appreciate all godly correction from any brother or sister in Christ, that is what fellowship is all about from one believer to another.

GREAT going all who have kicked the butt and to all trying keep it up. Its like not wanting to swear, cus, lie, cheat, still, etc. why not? BECAUSE WE DO NOT WANT TO ANYMORE! Praise God.

It is quite ironic that I am reading all of these posts concerning smoking, because I just received a phone call not less that 4 hours ago from my wife who is in Knoxville, Tennessee visiting her 72 year old sister who has been a heavy smoker all of her life. She informed me that a biopsy taken from her sister's lungs revealed that she has cancer. This is extremely sad and heartwrenching news, because my brother-in-law died of a heart attack 2 years ago, and my neice, a 47 year old daughter of this same sister-in-law, succumbed to lung cancer just about a year ago. I don't know how many have ever been witness to someone in the final days of their life as a result of lung cancer, but after having seen its devastating effects in two people whom I dearly loved, I will tell you it is nothing I would ever cherish seeing again. Usually when lung cancer is detected, the damage has already been done, therefore the chance of recovery is practically nil. So now, once again, I am being compelled to stand by and watch this deadly disease slowly extinguish the life of a beloved sister-in-law. Please, if you are reading this, and if it be that you now smoke, throw them away as rapidly as you can. Do not become another number in the statistical chart of those who lost their life to lung cancer as a result of smoking. While it is acknowledged that the death rate is still 100%, it need not come because of the foolishness of needlessly inflicting irreparable damage upon our lungs from the smoking of cigarettes!

I possess empathy for those who find themselves in the grips of this harmful habit, for I celebrated my 20th year of being smoke free at 4:30 AM on the morning of February 9, 2007, and this after almost 30 years as a 2 pack a day smoker. Yes, I too enjoyed smoking a cigarette, especially when first rising, after a good meal, or accompanied by a hot cup of coffee. But after becoming thoroughly disgusted with the constant cough and the many accidential burns from dropping ashes on items of furniture (including the seat of a new automobile), I simply asked God to remove the desire, and He did just that. Not only have I not smoked a cigarette since that fateful moment more than 20 years ago, but I also have never desired one nor wasted one cent on them since. As a result of the cessation of my smoking, my wife also quit smoking about a year after that.

If you are one who has quit smoking.... I applaud you!! You have given yourself a tremendous gift, and perhaps have added many days to your life that might have otherwise been needlessly wasted.

If you are still smoking, and are now in the agony of trying to stop.... please don't think it to be a hopeless task.... you CAN do it!!! Don't stop trying! And if you do truly possess faith in God to assist you in your efforts, then simply ask Him.... He will do it! Remember these words of our Lord - "...ALL things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye SHALL RECEIVE." (Matthew 21:22) The ENTIRE emphasis is upon you - YOU must ASK; YOU must BELIEVE; and, YOU must RECEIVE! It is truly as simple as that!

John, do NOT go and replace the craving for them cigarettes with food now. Too much food is not good for us either. That is something we must be extremely careful about. Lots of folks do that, you know.

Keep on keeping on stopping with your stopping! I am happy for you!

Temple Messenger - thank you for your post!

I wish my DH would quit smoking. He quit when I did but started back up again. He does not smoke around me - he doesn't even smoke when he's home but I can still smell it on him. I am worried about his health.

    Please pray for him!

I've been smoke free for 10 weeks, 5 days, 5 hours, 7 minutes, 14 seconds!

I am so excited for those of you are hanging in there!
I cannot believe how expensive those things are getting, going up another $.40 a pack!! I am doubly grateful to be done with them.

Something else I haven't mentioned, which is quite gross but I used to have bronchitis once or twice a year and at least yearly it was really stuck-in-bed bad. The stuff I coughed up.... oh my.....

I just realized that I haven't had even one of those episodes in the 2 yrs since I quit! I've had colds, but nothing like that choke-a-horse phlegm result of smoking. (Sorry- but it IS gross).

38 years, I thought "Well how much health can I get back at this point? I've already blown my lungs- 38 years!!!"
NOT necessarily true, so DON'T even use that excuse to keep smoking.

The wheezing at night is GONE. the bad bronchitis is gone, and all the real cravings are gone. I would like a cigarette, sure, but do I need one? NOPE!

    PTL!!! ALL glory to God!

Kyle, everyone, your testimonies on how God took away your own personal idol is encredible and your honesty about the fact you my friends saw it the same way I did, thats encredible, right on my brothers and sisters, John says "Little children, guard yourself from idols" .... I went for a year and a half without smoking and then I started attending this church and starting look at other people (very bad) I saw a flock of the sheep heading for the back before church to smoke ... I approached the pastor about the smoking issue ....his response to me was "Its not what goes into a man that defiles a man, but what comes out of a man, thats what defiles a man" I was like well, in your theology I can still pop pain pills and smoke weed, since its not what goes into a man that defiles a man .... get behind me satan! Can you belive that garbage God says, woe to them that call good evil and evil good... He also says woe to the worthless shephards of the flock..... I say ultimately we have to go to God, if God is gently convicting us to giive Him something there is a reason ... I know my biggest issue was Jesus said "Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven and whatever you loose on Earth will be loosed in heaven" I was like Lord, is there a smoking section in heaven? So I will pray for everyone who is in the first year the first year is the hardest, but with men it may be impossible, but with God all things are possible! Excellent testimonies my friends Amazing! I thank God for you my brother and sisters!!

It will be 6 weeks tonight since I quit. I actually had someone ask me if I smoked the other day...it was the first time someone asked me that and I could say "no".

I used Chantix and boy did it help me....only took it for 2 weeks total. I still want to smoke but I'm ok that I don't. My hubby is using it now to try to stop dipping. Today is his quit day and he has had one dip but not craving them near as bad as normal. He may need a few more days til he can quit for good.

I have seen many people in the past year and a half with lung masses and lung cancer. I've worked a heart floor (telemetry) and now on a perioperative unit getting people ready for surgery. This was part of the reason for me wanting to quit. You cannot deny how bad cigs are.

congrats to all who have accomplished the enormous task of quitting....and to the ones that still are....if we can YOU can!

    Default congrats

to all of you who have quit smoking! Praise God!

I was a 2 pack a day smoker for 23 years and quit almost 12 years ago. Sadly, I also watched my Mom die of lung cancer at the age of 67, just five years after her 94 year old non-smoking Dad passed away, and eighteen months BEFORE her 92 year old non-smoking Mom.

Truth is, smoking probably took 25 plus years off my mothers life.

Give it to God. Even when we are weak, He is strong!
