9-year-old student charged in pencil stabbing

    A staff report

A 9-year-old elementary school student has been charged with seriously injuring a classmate by stabbing her in the back with a pencil on Wednesday, lawmen said.

Cumberland County sheriff’s deputies charged the boy after he stabbed the 10-year-old girl at Cliffdale Road Elementary School, a news release said.

Investigators say the boy stabbed the girl with a pencil, causing a puncture wound on the upper portion of her back.

The boy stabbed the girl after an argument over a pencil box, authorities said.

According to the release, the boy found his missing pencil box in the girl’s possession.

The girl did not require emergency medical assistance and returned to school Thursday, the release said.

Detectives could charge the boy with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury pending the outcome of the investigation, the release said.

He is in the custody of his parents at this time. School officials will handle disciplinary action against him.

The degrading morals in our country, and the lack of reverance for God, pushing God out of our schools, is affecting the children.

You know, MSM likes to sensationalize these kinds of stories but as a mother to 3 girls, I have to say I have noticed that school bullying is taking on a whole new level. My youngest, who is 8, is routinely harrassed by boys. Usually, you hear of playground bullying to be same sex (girls taunting girls, boys rough-housing other boys) but most of my daughters' bullies are boys and the things they say lead me to believe that there must be a serious increase in domestic violence in their homes because these boys are getting a clear message that it is OK to strike girls and degrade them. There has been an increase at the school of boys calling girls names that go beyond the usual (names I won't repeat here) and boys re-enacting physical and even sexual violence and/or threats. Additionally, I am more than ever concerned because the teachers and school administrators seem unable or unwilling to really deal with these violent children. I used to work in mental health but now I work from home which is a huge blessing. I am seriously looking into homeschooling because of the escalation of this violence. Initially I did not want to pull my children out because I wanted them to learn how to assert themselves and deal with various personality types but even in learning how to assert themselves, these bullies just keep coming on. It is one thing to learn how to deal with the typical bully, it is another to be threatened and intimidated to the degree which some of these kids are.

Do you guys also notice that they are all getting younger and younger? If you take the 7 year old kid in Australia killing the poor lizards, the 8 year old killing his dad and another man, a 14 year old killing his pregnant mom and the baby, and 16 year old killing his family! And that is to name a few. Truly, I feel we are so in the End Times.

I know this is tragic and I hate to hear this. I confess it reminded
me of a childhood incident in 1958, I was in 8th grade and I was
so mad at another student, I poked his leg with a pencil and the lead
broke off! I was horrified and scared to death I was going to get in
trouble. All through high school he joked with me that the lead
was still in his system. Today, I would probably have gotten arrested
for such a deed. I can't believe something reminded me of me doing that!

I graduated in 1995 and I remember being in about 5th or 6th grade and another student getting stabbed in the leg with a pencil...

But I do agree, violence among children is escalating and the natural love of many is waxing cold.

I homeschool my daughter. I'm so happy to be able to give her a biblical worldview.

Pencil stabbings have been going on forever, but I agree with the other poster about boys having little regard for girls anymore. When I was in Jr. High, the boys were very protective of the girls in our class. Now, the junior high boys are as likely to strike a girl as anyone. Truly scary times we are living in. While we are no longer homeschooling, I'm glad my girls are in a small, rural school where some of this seems to be passing them by. We also have a solid youth group that they're a part of and many of those kids are at school with them.

See, what's different is that you felt remorse over the incident. A lot of times when the police interview these kids after the fact, they are often proud of the crimes they committed.

It seems to me that the boy was the one getting bullied by the girl-he found his pencil box in her possesion. Girls can be just as bad, if not more so, about bullying only it's a little bit more covert.

I have to disagree with the idea that it's good for kids to stay in a system because it teaches them how to handle different personalities. General interaction with people of all ages will help a young person learn how to handle situations and personalities in a better way I believe. Life is going to throw everybody curve balls whether we want them or not. I don't believe being STUCK with kids who are all the same age as you help you to learn anything but how to survive Lord of the flies style. It's ridiculous. Parents need to step up to the plate and help their children learn how to handle themselves or better yet the parents need to learn how to handle their emotions and be a better example to their kids and then maybe they can help their kids in a more constructive way.

I got stabbed in the arm with a pencil when I was in elementry school. Don't even remember why. The teacher just told me to sit down when I told her and didn't even look at my arm. So I sat down. Tears streaming down my face.

I was in 7th grade and got stabbed with a pencil by the girl behind me as I was leaving the room after class. Pure accident though. I suddenly stopped because I remembered I left something at my seat and the girl behind me, who was holding the sharpened end of her pencil outward as she carried her books, ran into the back of my left upper arm. I still have the greenish spot under the skin to this very day.
No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn... Isaiah 54.17

A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
    Psalm 91:7-8

What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

That is so, so very sad.

I'm around about zero children these days. About a week ago I was looking after 2 children who belong to the local handy-man. Kids were, oh, about 2nd or 3rd grade age. The little boy seemed nice enough but very nervous. The little girl troubled me deeply.

I had provided crayons and paper so they could draw; the boy wasn't interested bc he couldn't sit still long enough. I think he liked toy trucks, instead, lol.

The girl drew a picture of a persons backside, with a knife impaling the buttocks and blood trickling down. I did my best to not show how shocked I was....Instead I tried to get her to talk about her "picture"....That wasn't very product. She wouldn't answer.

A week before that, these same children were in my home when a little Girl Scout knocked on my door. I was startled to see the look of terror on this childs face! In retrospect I think these kids HAVE to know each other...same school.
The Girl Scout almost couldn't speak enough to ask me if I wanted GS cookies. Poor thing.

The child who drew the knife in the body seemed to have no clue how inappropriate her picture was. She enjoyed drawing...smiling and all. Same thing when she opened the door to the GS....just bland amusement.

Yikes....the whole scene still makes my skin crawl. If I were of child bearing age these days I would choose not to have any. I think it'd be too tough to handle what's going on with our children.

    Sad and scary.
