Shade, Matt and Kristen sat in their hotel room the next morning discussing their visitors from the night before.
The girls had been nervous, but willing to talk about the possibility of heading to the hideout. Becca and Renee had told them there were seven believers in their group. Rumors had been spreading of a detention, and re-education center at one of the local highschools.
"We have been checking out where it might be, and so far it's been a bust." Becca said.
"Yeah, we can't get within a hundred yards of any of the schools." Renee added, "Fences have been built around the the perimeters. The students have all been issued ID cards. They have a information strip that is swiped and thumb print for positive identification. Anyone who's prints don't match the ID are arrested and taken to the detainment area, and then moved to the detention/re-education center. The whole education system has changed. They still teach math and science, but those are the only courses that have remained the same. They have military type training.
Interrigation, infiltration, guns, physical training, and other weapons training. They don't have freshman, sophmore, etc anymore. They have ranks, and wear military uniforms. There are stripes indicating rank on the arm." Renee finished. "Becca can tell you the rest."
"All students have to be on campus by 7:40am. Any student that is late is detained, and questioned for hours. They all report to the auditoriums at 8:00am and must be in full uniform. They are instructed on the days itinerary, and each class lasts one hour and twenty minutes precisely, beginning at 8:40am until 6:00pm with each student having a thirty minute lunch assigned by rank. Higher ranks eat earlier and lower ranks eating later. No school property is allowed off campus. Event the uniforms stay on school property. Each student is scanned, printed, and searched before they leave. Anyone caught trying to take school property is detained and questioned. All this has been instituted within the last week." Becca finished.
"Wow." Matt said. "I thought school was tough before."
"How did you find all this out?" Shade asked.
"My little brother, Brandon, is a student at one of the schools and Noel, Renee's cousin, another." Becca said.
Kristen had sat quietly listening. "You said there are seven of you in your group. Who are the other three?"
"Lance, Rusty, and Quinton." Renee said.
"Where are they?" Matt asked.
"In the re-education center." Becca answered breaking into tears.
The girls had explained they wanted to get Brandon and Noel out of the school and to a safe place. They were both thirteen years old and they worried that they would break under the pressure. Their plan was to get the younger kids somewhere safe while they continued looking for their friends. They made arrangements to bring the younger kids to them later that morning.
There was a knock on the door and Shade answered. Renee stood there with the two kids. "This is Brandon and this is Noel. Guys this is Shade, Matt and Kristen. They are going to take you somewhere safe."
"I really wish you would reconsider. You and Becca could end up in the re-education center yourselves." Kristen said.
"We'll be ok. We can't leave Lance, Rusty and Quinton behind. If it's possible to get them out, we'll find a way. The sooner we try the better our chances."
"Are you sure? I still think you should come with us now." Shade said.
"No. Becca and I talked about it last night. They guys wouldn't leave us behind. We can't leave them. We'll find a way." Renee said with a firm nod.
She gave the kids a quick hug, and ran to the waiting car. Becca leaned forward in the seat, blew the kids a kiss and drove off.
"We'd better get headed back." Matt said.
