Default I'm looking for spooky Christian fiction

I know you guys will have some good suggestions. I am looking for Christian fiction that is spooky, the sort of thing where after you are done reading you don't want to turn the lights off. Any ideas?

Well, I never thought Christian and 'spooky' go together, but Peretti has novels that utilize demonic activity to give you shivers.

His classic is This Present Darkness.

*Ted Dekker is one of my favorite Christian authors. He and Frank Peretti even co-authored a book together: House. They both have a similar writing platform.

Some of Ted's work is more suspense/thriller, and some is more fantasy (like LOTR). But it all contains a Christian message.

    His website is here: http://www.teddekker.com/

*Ted has been discussed on this board before. Not everyone on here shares my thoughts on his work, but I enjoy his books and can see the Christian message that he portrays in them and in his blog.

Ted Dekker is probably a good place to start. I don't like the spooky books like "house" but my girls sure like to read them.

"I'm looking for fiction that is spooky, the sort of thing where after you are done reading you want to throw it in the trash"

Oh, in that case I recommend anything by Richard Dawkins or Christopher Hitchens....

Oh wait, I'm sorry, I misread your post...you said "I am looking for Christian fiction that is spooky, the sort of thing where after you are done reading you don't want to turn the lights off." I have to learn to read the posts better lolol.

In that case I don't know any books of that nature at this present time. :+).

(Sorry, I just couldn't resist doing that hehehe)

    God Bless,
    Anthony--

A gentleman here in Shreveport has written the first two novels of a "Christian horror" series under the umbrella title of "The Jonathan Steel Chronicles." The first two books are "The 13th Demon: Altar of the Spiral Eye" and "The 12th Demon: Vampyre Majick." (Yes, he is counting down the demons.)

I have not read them yet, so I cannot comment on their quality, but the author, Bruce Hennigan, is a devout Christian who has done considerable research and bases his plots on his understanding of the Bible and the (supposed) nature of demons and angels.

Because these are novels are self-published -- albeit of good quality -- you might have difficulty locating them in most national book chains, which generally do not sell "vanity press" books, but you never know.

I love Ted Dekker's books....I have all of them so far. Usually when I read a Ted book, I don't put it down until finished. I also like Frank Perretti's books as well.

    I second Frank Peretti.
Thank you, God, for my salvation!

I have read one Frank Peretti book, "This Present Darkness." It was pretty good, but only a few pages were what I would call "hair stand up on back of neck" spooky. I like the book, don't get me wrong, just not spooky.

I did get "Field of Blood" by a fellow named Eric Wilson today, it has promise. I'll try to let you know what I think after I have read it.

Many thanks for all the suggestions so far!

I just finished a book called My Visit to Hell by Paul Thigpen. It is about a man who has lived a godless life only to find himself thrust into hell. Each chamber of hell that he visits get progressively worse. If this book ever became a movie, it would be the worst horror movie of all time. Its a modern day version of Dante's Inferno. All I can say is Whoa...if hell is like its depicted in the book we just better be sure of our salvation.

*** I can not recommend Peretti. I have read his books and also, my own son was in his movie.

WHY? I have yet to read the gospel message in his books. If I am incorrect on this, please let me know.

In his movie the best I saw was the song "Jesus Loves Me" played near the end of it.

    Scripture in the books?

So many books that are scary in the Christian realm "skirt" the solution to the evil oppression, and that would be coming to the Lord Jesus in repentant faith.

Yes, Ted Dekker's books are very dark. I read his Circle Series but his recent stuff is way too Steven King for me.

Ted Dekker is good if it's "spooky" you're after, but after I've read them I don't see the "message" in them. Yhey are getting weirder all the time, and are not really any diferent than reading a Stephen King novel.

For some reason I have never been drawn to Dekker. I have seen his books, thought "that might be interesting" but never bought one.
