Default More insanity from emergent Brian Mclaren

I won't put up the link, but it's from his blog. This mystical view of Communion (He calls it "eucharist") misses the mark as is expected. To him it is an esoteric transformation that Jesus needs to be reformed in us, rather than us conformed to Him. I suppose when everything in God's Word needs some alternate meaning, you wind up with his odd theology. What follows in his musing is typical kingdom building insanity.

Today during the eucharist, a new thought hit me. (Isn’t it amazing that — after well over 1,100 experiences of the eucharist in my life — it still is fresh and yields new meaning?)

In Jesus’ death, his blood was drained from his body. That is, crudely put, what death meant to most people in Jesus’ day — especially violent death: the separation of blood and body. Today it struck me that in instituting the eucharist, Jesus was saying something like this: “My blood is about to be separated from my body, but when you take my body and blood into your body and blood, you will reunite them. I will live again in you. I will be resurrected in you.” This is not to minimize Jesus’ Easter-morning resurrection, but to suggest a major dimension of its meaning.

This thought also helps me understand Jesus’ statement in John: “Greater things than these will you do because I go to the Father …”
(Yet another ridiculous misinterpretation of that passage) Since hearing that statement as a child, I was bothered by it. If we said this, it would quickly be called blasphemy: how could we do greater works than Jesus? But since Jesus said it … we can’t push it off the table. Was Jesus eager to make it clear to his disciples that the story of the gospel was only beginning in him, and that they would continue it … leading to unimagined possibilities in the future? He should have said NO! here, but he didn't (This, I suspect, is why Jesus would often say, “Your faith has healed you,” rather than “My divine power has healed you,” or even “God has healed you” or “I have healed you.” By emphasizing their faith, he was empowering them to carry on his work.)

My little meditation (This was your first mistake, brian)this morning then led to this: In Jesus’ death, his spirit left his body. That’s what death is for many people — the separation of spirit and body. (I’m certainly not arguing for the old dualistic, Platonic-Cartesian ghost-in-a-machine view of humanity in saying this … I’m just using language the way it’s commonly used in colloquial speech, recalling Jesus’ words, “Into your hands I commend my spirit” — which could also be understood as “Into your hands I commend my breath,” or ”... my life,” by the way.)

In Pentecost, Jesus’ Spirit is reunited with his body, with us. So today, Pentecost and eucharist came together for me in a rich way, so that when I looked around the room, I saw in a fresh way “the embodiment of Christ,” the body of the risen Jesus alive and well on the earth. Maybe you’ll feel as I do today, that Pentecost is a far more important holiday than we often realize … its meaning is inherently linked to the resurrection … and to Jesus’ ongoing proclamation of the gospel of the kingdom of God. Just as Jesus came to proclaim the kingdom, and just as he sent us to proclaim and teach what he had proclaimed and taught … we continue as the ongoing embodiment of Christ, proclaiming and living the good news of God’s kingdom, by the power of the Spirit. Too bad the Gospel is never preached by his kind.

First of all, love the red and the addition of the smileys. It makes the article

    much more user friendly!

The first line is what got me. Coming from my RCC background, I just

couldn't get past the whole "Eucharist" thing. Sorry. I know that there

may be members who give me the Greek and explain it away, but that's

where I stand on the issue. Every Emergent has gone

Eucharistic. Every Emergent is ecumenical and opening their arms to

major deception. They need the Word of God and prayerful

guidance to see the truth and repent of their false beliefs.

You mean, Jesus isn't really in a cracker?? I wonder if they know how truly ridiculous they sound.

Fine use of interactive board features . I think it's emergent of you to use visual mediums when conveying a thought. Not to but we need to be more and embrace people who may differ from us

That's what the WC and PD movements would tell us. we all need to and listen to those with broader minds and get out of our dogma and get with the program.

    Thanks for the enlightening post.

Yep, this sounds very Catholic and real presence - this guy has got to be a Catholic in disguise.

You know, guys, for a deeply serious thread, we are a bit too funny for our own good!

I appreciate the kudos for my attempt at beating OWL at his own game!

    Thank you very much!

I don't know if it's me, but seems like these emergents are full of themselves because they fancy themselves as oh-so-tolerant and relevant and act like every thing they say is so profound...not.

Nice use of the smileys all around....I give it two thumbs up!

Oh yeah, Brian Mclaren is a knucklehead. But you guys already knew that.

    OWL, you crack me up.

Regarding Brian McClaren though. Watching a few of his video's it is weird. Watching his face and eyes it is like he is directed by something or someone else. He seems to glory in his own revelations, that are totally man driven and not of the Lord. Some of the stuff he says is so unbiblical I cannot believe people listen to him, but I guess the Lord said this would happen. Paul Washer has a video where he speaks of Apostate Pastor's and the people who go to those churches. He made a point that it was part of their judgment getting caught up in that kind of garbage. Wish I could explain it better, but it made perfect sense.

Listening to McClaren has always made me wonder if he had smoked something illegal. Why is it that they remind me of the hippies way back when I was a teenager. That laid back, "cool," personna that wants to just "rap" with others about their feelings...Seems like we've been this way before....( Satan isn't doing anything new...this goes back to Genesis 3, as usual...it always does.)

P.S. No smiley's this time! oops, that one got in on its own.

Sounds like Brian has been listening a little too much of the Beatles-

"You're just left with yourself all the
time, whatever you do anyway. You've got
to get down to your own God in your own
temple. It's all down to you, mate."
    John Lennon

What all this boils down too is that these people want to be their own gods. Brian started off at the beginning milder than he is now, but he has gotten progressively worse. It will not surprise me when he starts stating exactly what Lennon stated in this quote.

Mark my words this will be an RCC and New Age mix like you've never seen.

    Love the smilies guys
