This is one of those things that you have to decide for yourself. All I know is when hubby stopped paying our tithes for three months we ran out of money and food before the month was out all three months. When hubby went back to paying tithes God helped the money last longer. For us tithing is a must but it is given cheerfully not grudgingly.

And thus we shall always be with the Lord. 1Th 4:18 Therefore comfort one another with these words. |

I agree and that's NOT what I am suggesting at all. BUT I believe its a transcendent principle and It was again Instituted BEFORE the Law was even given
When God said in Malachi that we rob God ...I truly believe it means we rob Him of an opportunity to reveal Himself in our lives as it was an area that He said "test Me"

ya gotta check this place out Luke 21:34-36 “Watch out! Don’t let your hearts be dulled by carousing and drunkenness, and by the worries of this life. Don’t let that day catch you unaware, like a trap. For that day will come upon everyone living on the earth. Keep alert at all times. And pray that you might be strong enough to escape these coming horrors and stand before the Son of Man.” |

There is nothing wrong with tithing, but we can give in so many different ways too. Charities, those needing help in any way, companionship to the elderly ie giving your time. The gift of helps.

I think tithing 10% is a fair way. The person who makes $200.00 can give ten percent of what he makes just like a person who makes $2000.00 a week. It is not the amount of the tithe but of given God back a percentage of what He has blessed you with. Ask many a Pastors and it is the retired people on fixed income who are more faithful with their tithes then those who make far more money.
This said yes we should also donate our time for God too. We pick up bread at a local grocery store three days a week and take it to local Ministry that gives out food to the poor and homeless. It is a small thing and believe me I am not bragging about it. But we do practice giving of our tithes and our time. betty

Quote:
HeartReadyFleshWeak...you say that "obligations" say you tithe on the net amount....I used to think the same way too but when you give what you say you don't have (because it has to go to obligations) God is faithful to provide your needs. It is because of that stepping out in faith (to give to the Lord first and then obligations second) that God will provide for you when you think there's not enough to go around
